Stem Cell and Molecular Therapies RET
The RET program hosted by the Professor Donny Hanjaya-Putra Lab at the University of Notre Dame is projected to run for 6 weeks, 40 hours per week, from mid-June to early August, 2025 in McCourtney Hall.
The exact dates will be determined in conjunction with the selected teachers. Brief absences may be worked out ahead of time.
Benefits include:
● A summer stipend of $6000
● 3 non-degree graduate credit hours
● $300 for Academic Year curriculum development
● On-campus fi eld trip opportunity for AY students
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The objective of the Hanjaya-Putra Bioengineering Lab RET is to form partnership between Notre Dame and local high school teachers and students to introduce HS students to the emerging fi eld of Bioengineering and prepare them for their proliferation in STEM fi elds. Teachers will be involved in various hands-on modules in Bioengineering, where they will develop their own curriculum that can be used in their classrooms. During the program, teachers will be immersed in hands-on laboratory experiments involving polymer synthesis, stem cell culture, and molecular biology tools to characterize stem cell differentiation for their applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Upon completion of the program, teachers will be able to apply some of the hands-on modules to their classroom. As a follow-up, there will be an opportunity to bring several HS students to the lab for a field trip.
