As part of efforts to broaden the impact of research at Notre Dame, Quynh Lan Nguyen, Associate Research Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy, organized a solar eclipse event and provided safe eclipse viewing for over 150 seniors in partnership with St. Paul's Senior Community in South Bend, IN on April 8, 2024. This effort contributed to increasing public scientific literacy and public engagement with STEM, a key broader impacts (BI) goal of the National Science Foundation. The Center for Broader Impacts is supporting the Nguyen lab in articulating BI for research proposals and promoting outcomes of their BI efforts.
